The Future of Our Economy is Self-Employment

The economy has been tanking lately. Unemployment is steadily increasing and governmental intervention in the private industry has taken a whole new meaning. But, isn’t government intervention the quintessential silver bullet to the Capitalistic vampire?

The famous invisible hand that manages capitalism, as Adam Smith described a long time ago, is getting a shape. Therefore, the ideal capitalistic theory is slowly erosioning. The only thing that might save it, is if the beneficiaries and users of said economic theory launch a trustworthy scheme of revenue-making capital-gathering concept away of big business that balances the whole economic karma that is affecting us.

Congress might want to give tax breaks to those who hire people, but that is not enough. Congress should giv. Ince tives to those who start a small mom and pop business. Those who have creative concepts even if they don’t have employees at the time. If we keep the status quo, our country will be full of Wal Marts and Home Depots. The local stores have a good chance too, but aren’t given a chance to look past the cost-benefit analysis.

Not everybody can work on a big nationwide store, so self employment is the option for those who want to invest in their own future. Lets just hope that the Government interprets this situation as deserving that support for the little guy to grow.

Should the White House “Party Crashers” face Criminal Charges?

This past week, a couple attended the White House State Dinner. Apparently, the couple was uninvited, nevertheless went into the party, going through Secret Service agents, and taking pictures with Vice President Biden and other dignataries and celebrities like Katie Couric and Robin Roberts.

But, did they commit a crime? They weren’t stopped. They weren’t trespassing. They went in, got photographed, ate dinner and socialized. What I do think should happen, and be investigated is the standard of quality of these agents.

It is not fair that I have to be almost molested by a TSA officer at the airport if I want to take a flight to my other place of business in Virginia, and these guys can go into the White House uninvited and have dinner with the President of the United States. Equal Rights under the Law!!

Michaele and Tareq Salahi violated no law, commited no crime, and what they can do is help our country be a safer place……at least for our President.

With Businesses able to Open after 5:00 pm on Sundays in Puerto Rico… Will the economy get better?

This past week, the Governor of Puerto Rico signed into law a new bill that permits businesses to open after 5:00 pm on Sundays.  The spirit of the law mandates that this move will ultimately make the economy better…. I think that not necessarily.

Those extra hours of stores open won’t mean that the consumer has more disposable income to spend, therefore, the sad reality is that those stores may experience losses based on this move.  Although this law might create more jobs, those would be part-timers, without expectancy of being full-time, and won’t solve the unemployment problem in its entirety.

The problem in Puerto Rico goes deeper than this, it needs a complete overhaul of its economic process, and time is running out.

What do you think??

Democrats have enough votes to pass the Health Care Reform Bill

Sen. Blanche Lincoln was the 60th vote, giving the Democrats a fillibuster-proof lead against a delegation wide 40 votes from the Republican Party in the Senate.  This is a huge moment in Barack Obama’s presidency, getting to pass a major overhaul of the Health Care system.

The final voting will be held tonight at 8:00 pm EST.

Gun Shoppe Mudafort robbed in a mysteious way

On Wednesday morning, various thieves entered the gun shoppe Mudafort in Santurce, Puerto Rico…. That’s not the interesting part. The curious thing is that after the “hostages” were already out, the Police decided to negotiate with the robbers. What for? No one knows. The area looked like a movie film setting, with yellow tape all around, SWAT teams and everything.

However, when the night came, the SWAT team entered and found that there was nobody there. But it somehow happens that not only were the robbers there, they waited until everybody left and then robbed them silly.

How dare the Police Department immediately assume that this was an inside job? Isn’t it possible that you guys screwed up your operation? The second guessing game shouldn’t start by blaming the store owner. Bear in mind that you guys decided to throw the tear gas the DAY AFTER, something that might have assured the exit of the thieves from the store.

We are living very difficult times in Puerto Rico. And we don’t need the Police Department squaring off against honest civilians, especially if they only want to earn a living through lawful business.

What do you think?

Daily Report – Saturday, November 14th, 2009

Good Saturday morning!! This weekend is ery festive for Boxing fans, so I’ll just pass through the noring info…

UNITED STATES

- Barack Obama is in Asia. He’s challenging North Korea to a mic fight about nuclear weapons. Cool, Obama is arguing.

- The Attorney General decided that te trials against the 5 most prominent Al Qaeda operatives for the 9/11 attacks will face trial in New York. Anger ensued by the right because it is so dangerous to bring these criminals home, and that they won’t have a fair trial in NY…. PLEASE GIVE ME A BREAK!! These guys won’t face a fair trial anywhere in the world, and dangerous?, I mean, we do have our share of crazy Americans who love to shoot people just for the fun of it.

So, people, cool it, and let a NY jury sentence to death these guys.

PUERTO RICO

- My personal circus. Both Houses of the Legislative Branch convened today to finish up their vast work. Of course, the absurd bills will be approved. So sad.

SPORTS

- COTTO, COTTO, COTTO!! Miguel Cotto faces Manny Pacquiao tonight from Las Vegas, Nevada. It is going to be a great bout.

Buh Bye, Lou Dobbs

In a move that I won’t care about its origins, Lou Dobbs, the immigrant hater from CNN called it quits afyer 29 years in the station.

I won’t miss him, after being very annoying during the last 8 years and not speaking that much about business, which was his original forte.

Good riddance!!

Daily Report – Friday, November 6th, 2009 – Massacre at Ft. Hood – Puerto Rico official layoff day – Latin Grammys – Yankees Champs

Good Friday morning!! It has been a couple of days, but we are back in action. Today is Friday, the first one of November, and here is the important stuff.

UNITED STATES

In Ft. Hood, located in the lone star state, an army psychiatrist went berserk and started shooting at fellow corps members. He killed 12 to be exact, and injured 31 others. His name is Maj. Nidal Malik Hasan, an American citizen born in Virginia of Jordanian descent. He studied in Virginia Tech, which sets up a coincidental factual issue with the Virginia Tech massacre a couple of years ago. The investigation is still ongoing and Major Hasan is in custody.

PUERTO RICO

Those well announced layoffs in Puerto Rico are supposed to be official today. Although many of them were halted until January 2010 for deficiency in the notification of various important documents both to the employees and their labor union reps, others go to unemployment on the designated date.

It is incredible how many millions of dollars go down the drain with these governmenta advisers, that screwed up while doing their “job”. Now their “job” has to be done again. That is unacceptable.

SPORTS

The Yankees won the World Series, yippe-da-do-da. Of course their top 5 hitters in the lineup earn what the while 25 man Phillies roster does. It was about to happen. So, congratulations Yankees on your 27th championship. I am very happy for manager Joe Girardi, who has been in te spotlight after Joe Torre left. A-Rod? I don’t care.

LATIN GRAMMYS

The almost Mexican awards. Congrats to all the boricuas who got awards last night and lets keep on doing a great musical job for the world.

And like Mr. Alejandro Sanz says with Alicia Keys, let us spend the day…. “Looking for Paradise”!!

If you don’t take care of your clients…. Someone will!!

Today marked an important moment in my wife’s realization as a professional PR. She had the difficult quandary for a couple of weeks about a client that was doing business with a former almost associate, an was upset with that other PR’s work, and decided to break ties with her.

This client decided to talk with my wife for PR work, and after a couple of weeks of analyzing and deciding whether to accept him or not, she finally reached the conclusion that she was going to do it, she didn’t do anything unethical.

If a professional does not do the work, don’t expect that client to retain you forever. You will be a casualty of the economical war.

Weekend Report – Halloween Edition – Saturday, October 31st, 2009

Good Halloween Morning!! It’s that wonderful day of the year where everybody can dress in anything and not be called names! On that note, and since I’m dressed in 20-something year old artistic groupie instead of a pimpin’ pimp, here are this weekend’s top stories:

PUERTO RICO

Courts are having fun ruling on the Law #7 layoffs decision. But they are not consistent. The last case “returned” approximately 6,000 employees in the Department of Education, but for reasons not entirely substantive, it was just procedural. Hence, the lower court just extended their agony, because the Secretary of Education can start the process again, notifying their union leaders, and having the same 6,000 employees fired by Christmas. No advance there.

The oil refinery/depot explosion was ruled accidental/not intentional by the FBI and the ATF. Their investigation concluded that their was a gas vapor cloud over the whole refinery since one tank was “over its capacity”. And then an activation agent sparked the vapors, creating a fire that then resulted in the explosion. Ok, the matter is “officially” settled, but conspiracy theorists will be enjoying this accident for future urban legends regarding Puerto Rico’s political situation.

The legislature in Puerto Rico wants to avoid young people to drink and drive, so they proposed a bill, which was approved in the House, reducing the legal alcohol % in the bloodstream from 0.08% to 0.02%. Yes, THAT is the logical solution to prevent underage drinking. How about increasing the legal drinking age? Don’t be such puritans all of a sudden. Legislators know that, they are just grandstanding.

UNITED STATES

Daylight Savings ends tonight!! Remember that Sunday has 25 hours!!! How cool is that, when you can have an extra sleeping hour. We are very deep into autumn indeed.

Tuesday is a big day. It is Decision 2009 and many important elections will be going on across the country. The important ones for me are the New York mayor election, where Mr. Bloomberg will be running for a third term; and Virginia who will choose a brand new Governor since term limits are imposed by Constitution to a 4 year term.

SPORTS

The World Series continues tonight from Philadelphia. The series is tied 1-1.

NASCAR’s Chase for the Sprint Cup continues with its 6th chase race this Sunday. This weekend from Talladega Superspeedway. Jimmie Johnson still holds the points lead, followed by teammates Mark Martin and Jeff Gordon in second and third.

Enjoy your weekend people, Trick-or-Treat!!! Be safe!!
