Tiger Woods….Say it Ain’t So!!

Tiger Woods was the standard setter in the sports industry. African American, born to an interracial couple, college educated, professional golfer, advertisement contracts, happily married, proud parent…… It seemed like a fairy tale.

How come we’ve had to hear from the news the term TigerGate? The guy has had as many lovers as holes in a golf course. His trustworthiness both in personal life and in the advertisement arena is being questioned by high executives, and those who thought he was a role model are dissapointed.

Personally I don’t think of Tiger as a role model, he is a great golfer who makes a ton of money. But he is as human as I am. Although his faithfullness towards his wife has not been one of his strong points. Everybody has found Tiger’s weak spot, and as expected, it wasn’t in a golf course. He likes women, and women like him. Is he less of a person for doing that? Is he less of a golfer?

I understand that sponsors like Accenture decided to drop him, since that is a consulting firm that originated as an accounting and auditing firm, where truthfulness and faithfulness are key. On the other hand, his sponsors are going to be okay. The others are based on his golfing career rather than his indiscretions.

His divorce will be one of the costliest in the sporting industry. But his disastrous personal life shall not have the effect they are forecasting for his professional one. He is a money making machine. He thrives on championships. He will have to give out some millions, which in the long run will be recovered again.

This in no way affects the world’s business so networks please, stop talking about this like it was important to us.
